Solar
Will solar work on my home or business?
Almost certainly. The two biggest factors are how much sunlight your roof gets through the day and how much open roof space you have. We can give you a quick assessment from satellite photos of your property, and if the roof looks good we follow up with a free consultation where we survey the site properly and check that a system will suit your building and your energy needs.
What size solar system do I need?
Every home and business is different, so the right size depends on your energy use, your roof space and what you want the system to achieve. We design each system for the specific property rather than selling a standard package. Bring us a recent power bill and we will size the system on your actual usage, and your quote shows exactly what the design is expected to offset.
How reliable is solar power?
Very. Modern solar equipment is proven technology that powers everything from homes to large commercial buildings, and the panels we install carry long manufacturer warranties. We only install equipment we trust, and our team installs it to Australian standards, so the system is built to last.
What happens at night, or when the weather turns cloudy?
Your system produces less on cloudy days and nothing at night. Because it stays connected to the grid, your home automatically draws grid power whenever the panels are not covering your usage, with no interruption and nothing you need to do. If you add a battery, your home draws on stored solar first, which is how you keep using your own power after dark.
Installation
Will I need to adapt my home or business to run on solar power?
No. A solar system fits into your existing wiring, so your appliances, outlets and switches all work exactly as they did before. The only practical change you should notice is a smaller electricity bill. If your switchboard needs an upgrade to meet current standards, we identify that during the site assessment and include it in your quote before any work starts.
Billing and rebates
Will I get paid for the electricity I generate and do not use?
Yes. Solar you export to the grid earns a feed in tariff from your electricity retailer. Rates vary between retailers and change over time, so we do not quote a number here, but we will walk you through what the retailers in our area are offering when we design your system. Feed in tariffs are much lower than what you pay for grid power, which is why using your own solar directly, or storing it in a battery, saves you more than exporting it.
