The panels themselves are the least of it. The current ranges we install are salt mist tested by their manufacturers, and Trina’s Vertex S+ residential range is dual glass across all six models. What fails early near the beach is cheap mounting hardware, which is why we spec corrosion resistant rail and fasteners and do the isolation work properly. It is the part of the job where experience with coastal installs pays for itself.
Solar panels in Byron Bay, installed by a 25 year local
Tom Sexton has lived in Byron for more than 25 years, and his local team has been putting solar on roofs around here for more than twelve of them. That matters in this town, because Byron roofs are not like other roofs. Salt off the beach, humidity most of the year, big trees in the hinterland and everything from rusty old tin to brand new builds. We design for all of it, and the person who quotes your system is the person who installs it.

What Byron Bay does to a solar system
A design that works in Sydney can fail early here. These are the four things we check on every Byron quote before we talk panels.
Salt in the air
Anywhere from Wategos to Suffolk Park, salt spray is working on your roof every day. It attacks cheap fasteners and rail long before it touches the panels, so we spec corrosion resistant mounting and isolate dissimilar metals. The panel ranges we install are salt mist tested by their manufacturers, and we spec the mounting hardware for the marine environment, not for the lowest quote.
Old tin and new builds
Byron has both: original corrugated tin cottages in town and around Bangalow Road, and new builds with modern metal roofs. On older tin we inspect fixings, sheet condition and rust before we commit to a layout. On new builds we work with clean roof planes and can often hide conduit runs completely. Either way, the quote reflects what your roof actually is.
Hinterland shade
Camphor laurels and figs throw long shadows in Coorabell, Myocum and the back of Ewingsdale. Shade does not rule out solar, but it does change the design: array placement, string layout and honest production estimates matter more than raw panel count. We model your actual shading rather than pretending the trees are not there.
Heat and humidity
Panels lose output as they heat up, and Byron summers are hot and sticky. Every panel we install uses current N type cell technology, which holds its rated output in heat better than the older P type panels most of the region already has on its roofs. Over a humid February that difference shows up on your bill.
Three panel brands, chosen for this coast
We install AIKO, Phono Solar and Trina Solar. All current N type technology, all with 25 year or better product warranties on the residential ranges, and every specification on this site comes straight from the manufacturer datasheets. Our panel brand comparison puts the verified numbers side by side so you can see exactly what you are buying.
Thinking about backup for storm season? Pair the system with battery storage, or read the dedicated Byron Bay battery page.
Essential Energy, handled for you
Byron Bay sits on the Essential Energy network, which means your system needs connection approval before it exports, and the approved export capacity varies property by property. We lodge the application, design within what your connection allows, and manage the meter changeover with your retailer. You do not chase paperwork, you just get a switched on system.

A straight answer on price
Every Byron roof is different, so the honest answer is a fixed quote after we have seen yours. As a guide, here is where our residential systems start. The final figure depends on roof type and pitch, switchboard condition, panel brand and any extras like battery readiness. Call 0420 141 078 and we will give you a realistic range over the phone.
Indicative starting price only, for a straightforward single storey tin roof install. Your fixed quote reflects your actual roof, hardware choice and switchboard. Federal small-scale certificate incentives typically reduce the out of pocket cost further, and we handle that paperwork for you.
Byron Bay solar questions we get every week
I am two streets back from the beach. Will salt air wreck the panels?
My place in the hinterland gets afternoon shade. Is solar still worth it?
Usually yes, but only with a design that respects the shade. We map where the shadows fall through the day, place the array and lay out the strings around them, and give you a production estimate based on your actual site rather than a brochure figure. If the numbers do not stack up, we will tell you that too.
Who deals with Essential Energy and the meter change?
We do. Byron is in the Essential Energy network area, so your system needs connection approval before it can export, and we lodge and manage that application as part of every install. We also coordinate the meter changeover with your electricity retailer, so the only thing you notice is the system turning on.
