Murwillumbah, the villages and the farms

We have been putting panels on this region’s roofs for a long time; one of our early installs was an 8.0kW system on a farmhouse roof at Murwillumbah, and it is the kind of job we still love. Rural properties bring their own design questions: big sheds that often make better solar hosts than the house, room for ground mount arrays where the roof is wrong, and long cable runs that need to be sized honestly.

Many rural edges of the region are fed by SWER lines, the single wire earth return spurs that carry power to remote properties. SWER connections often carry tight export limits, so we design for self consumption first and confirm what your connection allows with Essential Energy before you commit. On properties where the grid is more trouble than it is worth, batteries and off grid designs enter the conversation.

We mount the expensive parts high

The 2022 floods taught this region hard lessons about where electrical equipment belongs. Panels on the roof were mostly fine; inverters, batteries and switchboards at chest height in garages were not. On flood prone properties we position inverters and batteries above known water levels wherever the site allows, keep switchboard work compliant and sensible, and think about how the system restarts after an outage. It costs nothing extra to think about this at design time, and everything to ignore it.
